Connection: Lit Circle Books

ADJACENT POSSIBLE, adjacent possible,  adjacent possible is a door where one could use and go to many places with the help of its imagination- if one tries. That is one of Addie's main point in her book/reading. What's the connection between her reading and mine? I have lots and lots of adjacent possible, too much that its making our brain overflow- too much is not a great thing though.

Yes I have no grudge against the adjacent possible, Heaven's no, it's just that I hate the people who over use it. Over using something is not a good thing ya' know. Like what I wrote, or Mr. Carr wrote, people are getting dumber as we rely more and more to our Internet. Addie's blog also talks about the other mediums, but in The Shallows? Those other mediums becomes either obsolete or slowly inherited by the internet, forcing the adjacent possible in those mediums to go into the void too. The Television (We can now search movies on Demand, browse the Net, and others! Furthermore, you don't even have to buy a T.V., you can just watch it in your computer, thanks to the Internet), News (Yahoo NEWS, The Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine,etc. they are in the computer now! We can now bomb the printing company, thanks to the Internet), radio (you can check out the live broadcast in your computer without the hassle to buy a radio, thanks to the internet), and books (Kindle is pretty bad*ss, you can go to links, surf the net, check out your e-mail, facebook, buy stuff in e-bay, WOAH WOAH WOAH wait a minute, its not a book anymore huh? thanks to the Internet) are some of the mediums that the internet has slowly, but surely, being taken away. When we combine everything, it is but a big pile of distraction, but, is there any ANY possibility that they are all in one big present? The Internet man, the internet. But how do we work with this medium is a thing that we must change. Others work with this adjacent possible in a good way, like Addie pointed out in her blog, people in Egypt congregate using the Net. I'm proud of them, I'm proud of them.

If I read her book deeper, I would have written more. But, even though that the old adjacent possible starts to rot away, new ones are emerging. But please, If anyone/someone/all of us/you are so suck up in the internet, go! GO! and grasp the other adjacent possible that this world, mother nature, can give you. There are a lot of them, also, you would also get inspiration- inspiration is (maybe) one of the mean of adjacent possible.

"...If you would make me choose between the internet or the book, I will choose the book", why in God's name would he say that? I mean, the Internet has a vast amount of knowledge that was once unreachable by any man in the world! A book is so darn boring that I can't even stand sitting on my chair with a book on my hand, bright lights that surround me, and a distracted brain not knowing the big claims of the author- BECAUSE IT IS SOOO BOORING! Then comes a book name The Shallows: What the Hell is the Internet doing to our BRAIN. It made me think twice about the things that I appreciate toward the Internet, and, his answer.

The Shallows  by Nicholas Carr is a novel about how the internet affects our cognitive thinking and how it affect our plastic/physical brain itself. In the reading, he explained how we rely more on the fact that we use the Internet, Google, as a "becoming" primary source of knowledge more than our precious biological brain of ours. A useless brain is a dumb brain! To be honest, I use Google whenever I want to know a question in webassign rather than using the book to gather information. The thing that I notice is that, whenever I find the answer in the Net, for some reason, I would forget the answer or it's concept- The concept is what we are really looking for in Physics, which I am lacking of. I head to a different question and then search then next question then search then next question then search, AND THEN, when I finish my webassign I would get an A, but, did I learn something... No. Yes, yes, yes, I get an A to my webassing, but, at the day of the test, for some (not) MAGICAL reason, I sometimes (ALWAYS) get a low B- I am guilty in charge. But when I read a book, it totally helps man! When I was in Bio, even a half of an hour reading the book gave me a straight A! GEEZUS. Nicholas Carr explained that, when we kept on using our brain (exercising the brain) the brain becomes sharper and smarter, like what the book is helping our brain- it forces the brain to work out and be focus.

Another thing about the internet is that distractions around it. Nicholas Carr also explained that in the book; The fact that multimedia distracts us when we read an article in the Net takes us away from our reading, from our gathering of  knowledge/ideas. He post different quotes of psychologists in the book that made experiments involving people reading without and with multimedia/distraction. In the course of the experiment, people with multimedia moves away to the topic that they were assigned to, they some times click to links that, sometimes, doesn't have any relevance to the topic- other than that, some of the were checking out their  e-mail, facebook, skyping, but, a small percent in the group totally gets into the topic (which has a chance to counter the fact that multimedia really is a distraction). Furthermore, rather than moving away to our reading, we now read in a different way than we used to- we now read in an F pattern rather than reading in a linear way, from left to right. F is for fast but also fail. We read from left to right in the beginning, and then, we skim down and pretend that we now know what we have read. What the Hell was that man! Use your darn brain for God sake. I started to not learn anything when I read in that fashion, specially when I combine the multimedia and the "F" reading pattern.

I think that he was right, Internet really is somewhat of a bad thing. Books keep us concentrated, more Yes, it takes us away from our custom learning and makes us dumb with it's "distractions", but every light casts a shadow, there are good stuff that the internet gives us too ya' know? Like mails, entertainments, and more- it makes our life a little easier. Yeah, what else, oh yeah, let us use the technology wisely my young Jedi... wisely.

In the reading, it talks about how we read a book versus the way we read (skim) on the articles in the Net- In the book, we read in a traditional way (deep reading) in a line pattern, but, when we read an article in the Net we read in an F pattern, reading from left to right then looks down. It also talks about the Hyperlinks and how it distracts us when we are reading an article for we tend to “curiously” tap on that link to , well, learn more stuff, but, it takes us away from our reading.  In the Google chapter, it has blown me away when just these two ambitious guys started to make something out of something, and with that, they wanted to change the world by making the world’s biggest library or center of ideas. But, the best part is when they were trying to make the world’s first A.I. which is another big leap for mankind (that’s two now, well that’s three, the other one was when I was born).

“’The ultimate search engine is something as smart as people- or smarter’” (172) is one of the quotes in the book that gives us a mental glimpse of what the 22^nd century looks like (I bet).  Google is going to set another leap to the future as they are/might make the first ever real live A.I. to whom we could converse with,  to play with (maybe some green thoughts), and specially to take over the stuff that we don’t like to be in (family reunions, I guess). The good thing about it is that, we can now extend our scientific intelligence by putting these A.I. to places that we cannot be (e.g.  Mars, Ocean depths, volcanoes, places where man has not stepped on). Well it’s not just about science you know, we can have a social interaction with them and may replace dogs as Man’s (woman’s) best friend. As Fusoya in Final Fantasy 4 says it “Light casts darkness…” what I mean is that there are bad stuff that might happen when we have this A.I. running around the streets. They might have an attitude and could hurt people, If they ran out of batteries, short circuits, they may take over our jobs,  or they might even take over the world- But I guess that those things may not happen, if we are careful.

It matters: "The King of Egypt"

Open your computer, television, radio, and you eyes! A revolution is happening right around the corner, and you should be concerned. The first time that I heard the news was in the class. The news about the Egyptian people trying to take down the king and changing the rules. It is time for change and time to challenge the status quo!

A lot of people are trying to break off the government under Hosni Mubarak. But first things first, who the heck is Hosni Mubarak. His real name is Muḥammad Ḥusnī Sayyid Mubārak, Hosni Mubarak for short. He was born in May 4 1928, currently the President of Egypt, and the 4th person to become the President of Egypt. What else, oh, people also tried to assassinate this guys for six times! Six freaking times! But why? Well maybe because he has been sitting there for thirty years, so the Egyptians stood up to change the president and start new government. But HOW? by the power of Internet. By using different social networking sites, people manage to bring up people and make a stance against the government. It wasn't easy though, it was a long process but it was all worth it.

Then comes the day when the revolution start. It started with few people rallying around the area, then came hundreds, then thousands, and before the night peaked in there were more. The police are trying to keep them in order, but they are starting to fail. People around the world starts to recognize the problem that is happening there. So what? Well, if the Egyptian government starts to crumble down, then the other nations in the middle east that are having the same problem might stand up too- changing the government. Whoa, what a wake up call huh?

But I have a feeling that there will be another problem that is lurking around the corner- The increase of Terrorism or War. Let me explain; Barrack Obama is helping the people in Egypt to change their government right? So there will/might be two things that would happen to America if the Government or some people in Egypt get pissed to our interference to them. First, If the people lose against their government, then they might shift their anger to America because America might have not given sufficient help ti change their country. It will lead to terrorism if that would happen. The Second one is a big BIG problem, WAR that might lead to World War three. The American government is helping the rebels right? What does the Egyptian Government thinks about that huh? They are PISSED OFF! American Government shouldn't be interfering them (But there must be some American citizen in Egypt, so I guess we have our reasons) they should be minding their own business. So if the Egyptian Government destroys the rebels, then they might fight fight America for helping the rebels. Then If that happens, then it would be a great opportunity for China, Russia, North Korea, and other communist country to destroy the The Great Pinnacle of Democracy! But there is a small chance that THAT might happen. Of course the Egyptian Government has to rebuilt their country and maybe move on, or DEFEAT AMERICA AND DESTROY THE WORLD! NUCLEAR WAR RULES!! I keed.

But for me, I guess freedom is the best thing that a person could ever have. A freedom that no one can ever be touch. A freedom for you and for me. I hope for the best to what will ever happens to Egypt and Godspeed.

Metacognition: "Backtrack" semester one.

Amazing things happen when people learn, experience, and understand "something" or "anything" that could really increase, not just your intelligence, but your whole "YOU". Isn't it amazing to learn what makes that picture, it's meaning, or purpose? You won't see it if you are just an average person. But if you study the first semester in Humanities, there will be a more sense of what that picture is.

When I was a kid, I hated paintings. I just didn't get them. Whenever we had field-trip into an art museum, I groan. I kept on saying "can we just go to the zoo?", but my teacher(s) simply smiles at me. Whenever I was in the museum with my teacher, classmates, and my mom I always go to the picture with more colors- well it wasn't just me but my classmate also agreed with me. There were some exceptions to what I hate about a or a painting back then: I loved to look at pictures with more actions in it. Of course every single one of my classmates liked it too. Sculptures were (and still are) cool too. Pictures with really no meanings about it (example- pictures with scribbled lines) were like the worst- but I was wrong.

During the first quarter of Humanities, it's more of studying what or how imagination and creativity works. It was really amazing. Because of imagination and creativity, my writings became more "elastic" (can't think of a word, but something totally close to that). For example, whenever I write a blog I tend to write more than I used to because I know now how to add more sentences using the first sentence just by being creative to what I say. Sometimes I tend to be humorous to what I write just to increase the numbers of words that  I could write in my blog. Because of creativity, I used my past and present thinking to what a reader's wants and don't to enjoy a reading in a blog, essay, etc. Likewise, every single darn person in this world hates reading a paper, blog, NEWSPAPER that has a lot of BIG paragraphs. People just hate that- maybe 80%. So sometimes I just make some (not all) of my writings into smaller paragraphs. When I make an essay that has three or more big paragraphs, I try to make it entertaining for the reader to read (like I said above). Furthermore, I like to add pictures in my blogs to make it more "FUN" and awesome at the same time. And that is what I got from learning creativity. Imagine that.

Now let us look toward the second quarter- Philosophy. Well this is one of the subjects that I am weak to. I call it a "wall". It is not a bad subject though, I mean there are no bad subjects at all, but there are only bad students in learning in some subjects- like me. I am bad in that subject because I tend to get bored to the long lectures about philosophy. I think it is because I am more interested to what will happen to the main character than the philosophers itself. But even though I missed some of the names of the philosophers in the book, I still do remember most of the teachings they gave. For example "do not always make conclusions", "We are not the final cause", "I think therefore I am", "Religious Philosophy", "Dualism", "Thesis, anti-thesis, synthesis", etc. Philosophy also influenced the way I write. Now I kind of understand more what I write and therefore I could add more to what my essay is. In other words philosophy gave me the "adjacent possible". It unlocked open doors and got me into them.

Remember the scribbled lines? Yeah, I kind of get it now. I feel like there is a dance in that picture. I guess the artist imagined that he or she was dancing with the flow of creativity, and also, he used his philosophy to what people thinks of when they see this painting.

I am a stardust

"Metacognition" after following the directions here: Get Organized! A Tribute to Aristotle--DUE MONDAY:Cleaning my Room.(longest title eva!)

 

Yes, yes, yes, I am darn proud of myself cleaning my room. Everything started with instructions. I checked out the homework for Monday and found out that I'm doing metacognition (again) but with a twist- a tribute to Aristotle. The instruction made me click the link button to another tab. It lead me to the real instructions. It said that I (really) have to organize something in my life in Forty something minute. Then I have to describe my experience after the organization. THEN answer some questions. I thought I was in a heck of a ride, but I guess sooner or later, I have to clean my room and finish my blog.

So! first up, think of something to organize. Love? no girls, Cars? no insurance (yet), Desk? whats on it?, CDs? I use memory cards, Computer? mom was using facebook, ROOM? well... why not? OK I choose "Cleaning the room". I knew that when I start to clean up the room, there was no turning back. I sat down the middle of my room, concentrated to what I had to approach first, then I attacked! I gave no mercy to the hangers that were scattered down the floor. I took the books with great strength and organize them from smallest to tallest. I pushed the off button of my computer like I have never pushed before. I cleaned my bed with endurance and great strength. Lastly, I gazed upon my room as if I was an eagle above the Arabian desert (are there any eagles on the deserts?). Then I cried (I'm just high). After I cleaned up my room, I turned on my computer (which I pressed hard, so I had to pluck it out with a spoon) and started writing.

Before I cleaned the room, it was so messy. Seriously, the hangers were lying on the ground, my bed was so untidy- bed sheet was half on the ground and the pillows were all scattered, the books were all over the place, and the floor was dirty. During my cleaning I started thinking about the blog that I had to work on. I started to think some comical stuff again for my work (which I just did). I started thinking about the book Sophie's world reading. I have not touched that book for a while now, maybe I would start reading it on Sunday. I also thought about the Bulls game against the Sacramento Kings. Who are the kings anyways? Have not heard of them. Wish the Bulls luck! I also started to think about my other assignments, how to approach them and when to start. Yeah, after a while I finished the room with proud.

The room looks clean(er) now, but nothing changed my mind after that project. I don't know what the question meant, but I think there's some metaphorical thing that was about that question. But I think, my mind feels more... organize? yes, organize. To see the room with more space made my mind feel more organize. Oh yeah, my mind feels more ease with the look in the room. Well I guess my mind really felt something didn't it?

After the work was done, there were few things that I found out. First was that, my brother loves the way I look when I'm tired (BTW, it was our room), and I found out where the Milky ways and other chocolate bars go. But in a more serious way, I found the beauty of my room. Gosh, of course I cleaned up my room sometimes, but this time I noticed the nice blue painting on the wall of my room, the nice tint of yellow lights, the way the closet door shuts in ingenious way (the door folds when you open it), and the map fits perfectly on the wall beside my bed.

In the end, I had a lot of fun (philosophically) and my room is now tidy (again). I have not seen the room in a different way before. What if we organize our life in our society or organize the things around us? will we see the beauty of us or around us? maybe, we have not tried. But I have a strange feeling that my room will return to its mad way by tomorrow, or the next day.

Carry It Forward: "My Universe: The First Nothingness"

Big Bang: you, me, mom and dad, friends,and anyone that you see everyday believes that everything started with the big bang- With the exception of the SUPER religious people. As I read the book "Sophie's World" I found out that since then, the Philosophers were trying to understand what the world is. A lot of them thinks outside the box; they think that the sun, the moon, and the stars revolved around the world while others thinks the opposite, many says that the world was created by God, while others ignore them and thinks that they are crazy. I want to know too where we came from, where this world or everything came from. But how and why? I have thought some Ideas about our universe, and others have theirs.


When I was a kid, I knew nothing. I play, eat, poop, and sleep. The whole universe might have been like that. When I first heard the Big Bang, the first thing that came inside my head was fireworks. What I mean was that, who created the big bang? When you want to make a rocket for a firework, you need a lot of stuff or "ingredients." You need to make a powder that has different elements to make specific colors to find it interesting, a shell to fill the powder with, and a specific area to start the fireworks display. So how can the nothing make a spectacular firework with nothing? How did life started from that?  And why did the big bang happened in this nothingness- in our nothingness? I had a feeling that our Big Bang was not the only big bang in the universe. I somewhat believed that the universe was not the only universe out there. I had the thought that there was multiple big bangs that happened before our own big bang began.

Now that I have grown and know more than I was young, I have now a different point of view. My idea came from chemistry- while on the bus. The thought just came inside my head this year. I believe that the universe is inside of something. I believe that the universe are the ATOMS that are inside us! I believe that every single item, people, or animals has billions of galaxies inside them. Do you know that elephant that Dr. Seuss created back then? The book or movie "Horton hears a who!" Is an example. An elephant name Horton found a flower that has tiny people inside it. This people inside the flower doesn't know that there's life outside their world. One day Horton started to speak with one of the tiny people and the story goes on. I have different theories to prove my belief. First, when you see the modern model of an atom, it is more of a cloud! There are some comparison with the universe and an atom. Here is a modern atom model...

 

As you can see the nucleus is inside the electron cloud. I have also learn that the nucleus is accompanied with Protons and in the Electron cloud there are obviously Electrons.  The Protons keep the Electrons from "running away." When I see this model, a picture ventures inside my head, as if it is telling me that this thing has a look alike. Guess what? Here... 

WHOOOAAAHHH!!! SOOO BEAUTIFUL RIGHT. I smiled when I saw this. So can you see now? LOOK very closely! That thing in the middle of our universe, doesn't that look like the Nucleus of an atom? Oh my goodness, it does look like it huh!? WAIT THERE IS MORE! I have researched last night and I found out that THAT thing in the middle, that bright thing inside the middle are Billions and Billions of stars! IT IS LIKE AN ATOM! For example; an oxygen atom has 8 protons, obviously, the amount of electrons outside the Nucleus is equal to the numbers of protons inside or on the nucleus which is 8! except if the atom is an ion. So, if there are billions and billions of stars inside a universe or milky way, there must be billions and billions of stars around it- WHICH WE HAVE!

Then came another question that bothered me. My question is, are those stars inside the Orion belt (that bright thing.) Positive? And are those stars outside the nucleus(that thing that surround the bright area) negative? Basically, are the stars in the middle of the belt are Protons and are the stars outside it are Electrons? But "I guess" I have an answer for that! TAKE A LOOK- but most of all OBSERVE HOW THEY COLLIDE!!!!

DID YOU NOTICE SOMETHING!? Oh my GOD! What an evidence that they are like Electrons! Did you notice that they kind of trying to move as far away from each other before they collide? Oh my GOSH! Electrons doesn't like to be near each other too! Like my picture of the Milky way on top, the stars are far away from each other! Why? Maybe because they are Negative charge stars! The stars in the middle of the milky way BEHAVES like the Protons of an ATOM! The negativity of the stars kind of explains way the stars are far apart from each other, and the positive stars behaves like the protons of an atom.

Well, I have a lot of evidence to prove my idea, probably. But if my statement is true, THEN there are GOOGLEPLEX amount of universe in the Earth alone! HOLY MOLY! But there are still a lot of questions that needs to be explain! For example; if this galaxy is an atom of something, then life must exist but much much MUCH bigger than us! OR There really is life inside the atoms! BUT, the MY BIG QUESTION IS, "Who created the first nothingness?" There might be a part 2 for this entry.
